Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment in Vellimadukunnu, Kozhikode

The treatment our patients mention most often in their reviews. We save the natural tooth by cleaning and sealing the infected canal. It is carried out under proper local anaesthesia, so the visit feels far closer to a routine filling than the reputation suggests.

When this treatment is usually needed

If any of these sound familiar, it is worth being examined. None of them is a diagnosis on its own — several different problems can produce the same symptom.

  • A tooth that aches on its own, especially at night
  • Lingering pain after something hot or cold, rather than a quick twinge
  • Pain on biting down, or tenderness in the gum around one tooth
  • A tooth that has darkened compared with its neighbours
  • Swelling of the gum or face near a tooth — treat this as urgent

How we do it here

The specifics that shape your visit, rather than a generic description of the procedure.

  • Single-visit completion possible in many single-canal cases
  • Rotary instrumentation for a faster, more precise clean
  • Crown planning discussed in the same appointment
  • Follow-up review included, at no extra charge

How the visit usually goes

Every step is explained before it happens, so nothing arrives as a surprise.

  1. 1
    Examination and X-ray

We confirm which tooth is involved and how many canals it has before anything else is decided.

  2. 2
    Local anaesthesia

The tooth and surrounding gum are numbed properly, and we check you are comfortable before starting.

  3. 3
    Cleaning the canal

The infected tissue is removed and the canal shaped with rotary instruments, then disinfected.

  4. 4
    Sealing

The cleaned canal is filled and sealed so bacteria cannot re-enter.

  5. 5
    Crown planning

A treated back tooth usually needs a crown to stop it fracturing. We discuss this in the same appointment.

This page describes a dental procedure in general terms. It is not a diagnosis and not a treatment plan, and outcomes vary from person to person. What is right for you is decided after a clinical examination at the clinic. See our terms and medical disclaimer.

After your treatment

General aftercare. The instructions you are given at the clinic, for your own mouth, come first.

  • The numbness usually wears off within a few hours. Avoid chewing on that side until it has, so you do not bite your cheek or tongue.
  • Some tenderness when biting is common for a few days. An ordinary painkiller, taken as the packet directs, is usually enough.
  • Avoid chewing hard food on the treated tooth until the final filling or crown is in place. A root-treated tooth is more brittle.
  • Keep brushing and cleaning between the teeth as normal, including around the treated tooth.
  • Call the clinic if swelling develops, if pain is getting worse after two or three days, or if a temporary filling comes out.

Questions we are actually asked

Is a root canal painful?

Modern root canal treatment is done under effective local anaesthesia, so the procedure itself feels similar to having a filling. Most of our patients describe the visit as smooth and painless, and many single-canal cases are finished in one sitting.

How many visits will I need?

Many single-canal cases are completed in one sitting. More complex teeth, or teeth with active infection, are usually done across two visits. We will tell you which applies to you after the examination.

Do I need a crown afterwards?

A treated back tooth generally does, because it takes the full force of chewing and becomes more brittle. We discuss crown options with you in the same appointment rather than raising it later.

How much does a root canal cost in Kozhikode?

It depends mostly on which tooth it is - a front tooth usually has one canal, a molar three or four - whether the tooth has been treated before, and whether it needs a crown afterwards. You are told the cost for your tooth after the examination and X-ray, before any treatment starts.

Is it better to save the tooth or have it taken out?

Where a tooth can reasonably be saved, saving it is usually better for the teeth around it and often costs less over the years than removing it and replacing it later. Where it cannot, extraction is the right call, and you will be told plainly which applies.
